As a teenager I was always active and kept myself in good shape. Of course, just as anyone coming from a typical European family, food was a part of our culture. Whether it was a family dinner or a party, there was always a huge assortment of different foods and you had to eat your fair share of it or you would run the risk of offending someone. Over time, I noticed a very gradual weight gain and matters only got worse when I started spending eight hours a day at my desk; a drawback of the accounting field. When my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness everything completely fell apart for me. To cope with the depression, I started to overeat and eventually I hit 346 pounds. Even worse was the fact that I had just turned 30 and was told I was a borderline diabetic.

I tried various diets, but they didn’t work for me. I knew I had to find a solution and my doctor recommended Slimband. Given that it was surgery, I had my concerns, so I made sure to go to the meeting prepared with lots of questions. My consultant and the surgeons at Slimband were amazing in that they answered every question and really seemed to care. The answers put my mind at ease, and, because of that, I decided I’d try the Slimband procedure.

I feel that with the tremendous results I achieved, I finally have my life back. I started this journey at 346 pounds and I’m now down to 130 pounds. Thanks to learning about portion control from the dietitian, I’ve managed to keep the weight off. I’m no longer considered borderline diabetic and I can honestly say I can’t remember feeling more energetic or happier than I do now.
